There are two ways to type Nepali: write it in English letters and let the keyboard turn it into Devanagari ("mero naam" becomes "मेरो नाम"), or use a traditional Nepali keyboard layout. And on some devices you can simply speak. What works depends on your device — voice typing in Nepali works on Android and in Google Docs, but not in iPhone dictation or Windows voice typing.

Most Android phones come with Gboard. Add Nepali once, then switch languages with the globe or space-bar key.
- Open any app with a text box, tap the Gboard settings (gear) icon → Languages → Add keyboard → Nepali.
- Choose the layout: the one that turns English letters into Nepali is easiest if you type Roman Nepali; the traditional layout matches printed Nepali keyboards.
- Voice (bolera): switch to the Nepali keyboard, tap the microphone key and speak. Gboard has supported Nepali voice typing since 2017.

Install Gboard (or Hamro Nepali Keyboard) from the App Store, then turn it on in Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard. In Gboard, hold the globe key → Settings → Languages → add Nepali.
Apple's own dictation doesn't support Nepali, so the microphone on the iPhone keyboard won't write Nepali. For voice, use Google Docs in a browser or the voice box on our Unicode page from a computer.

Windows: Settings → Time & language → Language & region → Add a language → Nepali. Windows includes a phonetic input for Nepali as well as the standard keyboard; switch between languages with Windows key + Space.
Windows voice typing (Win+H) doesn't support Nepali. Mac offers a traditional Nepali keyboard under System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources, but no built-in Roman Nepali layout — the Unicode converter is the quickest way to type Roman Nepali on a Mac.
