Driving License Nepal
Complete guide to apply for a driving license (Smart License) in Nepal through the Department of Transport Management.
Nepal issues Smart Driving Licenses (chip-card format). Applications are processed online via DOTM.
Application Steps
Register on Smart Driving License Portal
Visit dotm.gov.np and register with your citizenship number.
Fill Application Form
Fill the online form with personal details, select license category (A, B, C etc.), and choose your Transport Office.
Pay Application Fee
Pay via ConnectIPS, eSewa, or bank. Fee varies by license category (~Rs. 1,000–2,000).
Trial Number / Token
After payment, you will get a trial number. Book a date for the written and trial (practical) exam.
Written Exam
Appear for the written exam at your assigned Transport Management Office. The exam covers traffic rules and road signs.
Practical Trial Exam
Pass the practical trial on a designated test track. Category B (car) trials are held at Transport Office compounds.
Collect Smart License
After passing both exams, your Smart Driving License will be ready in 7–15 working days.
Documents Required
- Citizenship Certificate (original + photocopy)
- Recent passport-size photos (white background)
- Medical certificate from registered hospital
- Existing license (for renewal/upgrade only)
