Complete step-by-step guide to apply for your Nepal ePassport online — from registration to collection.

Nepal now issues ePassport (chip-embedded). The process has moved fully online. Visit passport.gov.np for the official portal.

Step-by-Step Process

Register on the Online Portal

Go to the Department of Passports online portal at passport.gov.np. Create an account using your citizenship number and mobile number.

Use a mobile number you have active access to — OTP will be sent to it.

Fill the Online Application Form

Log in and fill out the passport application form with your personal details exactly as they appear on your citizenship certificate. Choose your preferred passport office.

Double-check all Nepali name transliterations carefully.

Pay the Application Fee

Pay the required fee online through ConnectIPS, eSewa, Khalti, or direct bank deposit. Normal delivery: Rs. 10,000. Express delivery: Rs. 15,000.

Keep the payment receipt screenshot — you will need to upload it.

Upload Documents

Upload scanned copies of required documents: citizenship certificate (both sides), old passport (if renewing), and recent passport-sized photo.

Scans must be clear and under 1MB each. JPEG or PDF accepted.

Book Appointment

Select an appointment date and time at your chosen Department of Passports office. Print or save the appointment slip with your token number.

Appointments fill quickly — book as early as possible.

Visit the Passport Office

Arrive on your appointment date with all original documents. Your biometric data (fingerprints, photo, signature) will be captured at the office.

Arrive 15 minutes early. Bring originals + 1 photocopy of everything.

Collect Your Passport

Normal processing takes 7–15 working days. Express takes 3–5 days. You will receive an SMS when ready. Collect it from the same office.

You can check your passport status online at passport.gov.np.
